There are lots of events in the country covering spectra such as entertainment (concerts and contests, etc) and business (trade fairs and exhibitions, etc.), but there's one common ground for any kind of event: These may change all of a sudden.
We have here Bruce, who is an example of an event organizer. He, along with his team, has been formulating the program for their event as far as a year before the exact date. However, there are many adjustments that they have to take note of. These may include last-minute cancellations for guests, contests and activities, rescheduling of program activities, so on and so forth.
Bruce manages a concert that is long-awaited by enthusiasts of smooth jazz, especially those of the overseas guest/s that have been invited. One day, the specific guest had to postpone his appearance - this will make some fans sad as they had filed their leaves prior to the date of his appearance (considering that even some still have work on the weekends).
Luckily, this was just a reschedule, but what if the guest did cancel his appearance? That will definitely take a toll on Bruce, as he has to cancel the guest's round-trip plane tickets, hotel bookings, so on and so forth. This also affects their ticket sales - so much that they can refund the visitors who paid for the concert just to see the guest.
The next course for Bruce is to fill in the void that the overseas guest has left. Luckily, he was able to fill in the void by getting more local jazz artists, and while the anticipation of the concert did went down, Bruce was able to position it to a different niche, delving more into showcasing the local jazz scene instead of having just one big jazz concert.
What visitors should understand about events organizing? There are sudden changes that can hurt the fans and the organizers altogether. Now, even if Bruce was able to mitigate a flop, what will happen in next year's event? They will go back from the drawing board, picking up the pieces from what has happened and then prepare the next format for another one.
Change is constant, and this is really reflected on the event industry, no matter where you go. This hard yet exhilarating events industry is truly wonderful.
If you've been going to events for a long time and appreciate the effort organizers give to each event and its visitors, why not discover your inner Bruce? We here at Ex-Link Events are looking for young, active and resourceful individuals to be part of our Events Staff. Send your letter of intent and resume at info@exlinkevents.com. You can also send your queries at the same email address.

It's that time of the year again! The last four months of the year in the country, dubbed as the "-ber months," is said to be the time where we are preparing for the holiday season more than our neighboring countries. With that said, we expect many people to line up in malls or markets to buy gifts for their loved ones.
There're a lot of choices around, and you might want to get them all - but remember to get the present that your loved ones will appreciate the most. Here are some tips on how to prepare for your holiday shopping:
- Keep the receiver in mind. Know his/her interests, likes and dislikes. The more you know about the things he/she appreciates in life, the better.
- Ask advice from friends. Don't rely on just yourself. If you know his/her friends, you can ask them about the things and quirks he/she has.
- Know your limits. Most of the time, we can't offer what we want to give to our loved ones
- Know where to buy. Spend time to research on the places where you can buy the gifts. Spare a day or two to canvass and compare which place is the best one to buy gifts.
- Know how to present the gift. Presentation is key. This depends on a case-to-case basis - if you are going to give to someone who can't afford it, make sure that it's special. If you're going to give to someone who can afford it but has no time to buy it, you can keep it simple as well. It all depends on how do you know the person you're giving to.

The country's economy is changing as time goes by, and all of a sudden, we'll be part of a bigger economic community in the next few years. Unlike before, Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) will now have to compete in a much larger market which also involves neighboring countries.
To get ahead of the rest, you must equip yourself with knowledge in new trends going around the MSME industry, and if there's one place that we recommend you to do that, it's the Philippine Business & Entrepreneurs' Expo.
The Philippine Business and Entrepreneurs' Expo (PBEX) is an event that is part of our conscious effort in cultivating and nurturing the MSME Industry. This three-day event gathers a lot of visitors, and has been running for six years and counting.
This year’s event highlights various conferences that cater to the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprise industry. On the first day, the ASEAN MSME Business Forum will gather key resource speakers from parts of the ASEAN region to discuss ideas to help MSMEs expand to the region.
The Business Sustainability and Resiliency Seminar will take place on the second day, covering topics related to business preparedness and how to mitigate possible business troubles. On the last day, the MSME Success Forum will gather business owners and businesses for a day of knowledge- and idea-sharing.
Aside from the conferences, there will be a Business-to-Business (B2B) meetup on the first day and exhibits from different business throughout the whole expo.
If you’re in for three days of fun activities, come join the 7th Philippine Business and Entrepreneurs’ Expo at the SM Megamall Megatrade Hall 1 in Mandaluyong this August 26 to 28. Just last weekend, a tornado appeared in Manila out of nowhere, swinging objects surrounding it. The residents never knew that a tornado will pass through their area - what everybody know is the strong rains that have occurred in the early mornings of the weekend.
In these times, we don't know where calamities will appear - they may come while we sleep. This is the same with local businesses - go unprepared and be ready to fail fast. Let your business stay as a straw house and it will be blown away by the big bad wolf of changing times, trends and upgrades. This is why your business should be as free-flowing as a bamboo - even if it's a type of grass, it sways left and right, it's not bothered by the wind, and it's a very useful resource then and now.
Good thing we have the Business Sustainability and Resiliency Seminar this August 27. This features discussions on how to make your business sustainable from various resource speakers who are knowledgeable in their fields of work. From business coaching, to holistic approaches and to financial literacy, this seminar has got you covered.
If you don't want to let your business stay as a straw house, come to the Business Sustainability and Resiliency Seminar and get some bricks of wisdom to strengthen your business.
The Business Sustainability and Resiliency Seminar will be held at the Megatrade Hall 1, 5th Floor, Mega B of SM Megamall in Mandaluyong City. This is part of the 7th Philippine Business and Entrepreneurs' Expo. Follow the 7th PBEX on Facebook for updates. Want to visit the expo? Register for free! Interested in the Seminar? Register below!

Michael Phelps will walk in the pantheon of the Olympic
history as a hero that we will all look up and celebrate every time the conversation
goes at the direction of sports and the Olympics.
But his story is not all about roses, he too, in a recent
documentary, has a demon to conquer and needed the support of friends and
families in order to get back right on track.
In the events
industry, we can all learn and be inspired at what Michael Phelps has
accomplished.
We can learn from his perseverance, dedication and passion
for the craft that he loves. We all agree that where we are right now, in the
events industry, our love is immense.
If Michael Phelps enjoys the cheering and adulation of the
fans, we, at our industry, enjoy the tap on our shoulder, smiles on the faces
of our clients and the many thank you we are showered by our suppliers, staff
and clients.
We all can be Michael Phelps in our own little universe, and
if you think it is impossible, you can always look at Michael Phelps
achievement and great character to stir your dying embers, and get that prized
gold medal in our field – the event management industry.
