I know everybody will agree that the holiday season will bring out the best events in the land. For one, this part of the year is the best way to make a killing and laugh your way to the bank. The Corporate, School and Family Christmas parties are events that bring out the merriment of the season. Bazaars from every corner of the metro and the provinces sprout like mushrooms. Concerts and plays bombard us.
The malls and commercial establishments also come out with a lot of gimmicks, even extending their time of operations just to capture the spending spirits of the shoppers.
Indeed, we are all lost in this crazy season.
However, for the events management companies this is the time where their creative juices are challenged, and their struggle to be heard in the midst of the noise become an Everest – too high and too stiff.
I am enjoying the dynamic air of the energy that is everywhere and I am happy for all the projects that all the event and production companies are getting and implementing this season.
As for me, Exlinkevents still has one event to implement the MegaBalikbayan OFW Expo this December 9-11, 2011 at Megatrade, SM Megamall.
The turn-out of this trade show is very encouraging and broke all the pass records in terms of exhibitor participations and, hopefully, visitor attendance.
What can I say the sea of opportunities is so wide and the events industry is so big that it is dominating the holiday season like colorful and bright lanterns that adorn our streets, highways and homes.

| More and more OFWs and Balikbayans are leaning to franchising to start a business |
National Franchising and Business opportunity Fair is a co-located event of 8th Mega Balik Bayan OFW Expo which will be held on December 9, 10 & 11 2011 at SM Mega mall Trade hall.
Christmas is the most celebrated season in our country and the time when even Filipinos working abroad scheduled there home coming to spend the occasion with their loved one.
Other than having a vacation for the mean time and spending quality time with their love ones, setting up a business is also one of the few goals OFW or overseas Filipino workers have planned. Although many OFW consider their work abroad as their main source of income for the rest of their lives, many of today’s OFWs consider their work as a first step for them to establish a life better.
This life is possible by starting their own business which will serve as their main source of income if managed well.
Owning a franchise business in the Philippines is fast becoming one of the most popular and most effective ways to gain financial stability. A lot of young entrepreneurs are getting into this type of business more and more each day.
True enough, with a 90% success rate franchising a business is booming. The industry has only been in the Philippines for about 11 years but according to the Association of Filipino Franchisers. Inc. (AFFI), there is now about 900 franchises all over the country! In fact, the Philippines is now known as the “franchise hub of Asia”.

DESPITE the availability of assistance programs and light payment or investment schemes, only two overseas Filipino worker (OFW) households out of 10 choose to invest or save the remittances they regularly receive.
Based on a study made by The Nielsen Co., only around 17 percent of households said remittances go to savings and investments, while a whopping 96 percent of OFW households spend it on basic needs, such as food, utilities, bills, rent and education.
This data is very alarming and it only makes the task compelling in creating avenues for OFW and Balikbayan to be educated in entrepreneurship and wise investment.
In 2010 OFWs sent a total of $18.7 billion worth of remittances. If a large chunk of this remittance is invested into creating business a lot of people will have jobs and the trend of going abroad just to earn for a living will be abated.
This is the reason why Mega Balikbayan OFW Expo, an eight year event advocating entrepreneurship and investment directed at OFWs and Balikbayan continue to grow and reach-out this segment of the society.
Business has a multiplier effect that can make the nation progressive. The OFWs and Balikbayan have the income to enter in a business provided they are guided and educated there is no reason they cannot be successful in this field.
Government figures showed that for the January-to-June period, OFWs already sent $11.3 billion worth of remittances, despite the global crises, which initially was expected to cut remittances in 2011.
This figure if only we can harness has a very promising potential in stimulating our economy to unprecedented growth.
As for Mega Balikbayan OFW Expo, the event is slated this December 9-11,2011 at Megatrade, SM Megamall.

Another tourism congress will be held this coming November 10, 2011 at the PICC. The goal is to rectify what was wrong in the first tourism congress and to elect a new leadership in the private sector.
Last time around, the result created disunity and stalled what could have been positive action plans to uplift our tourism industry using the new tourism law.
It is with high hopes that this second Tourism Congress will create unity and move forward the industry.
As in any other body, there are a lot of groups and individuals who are trying to grab a seat or voice in the congress just to satisfy their self interest and not the industry. This is what we have to guard and be vigilant about.
Our tourism is one of the sunshine industries if only all the members of the sector will keep this in mind that we first serve our country before our interest.

I like so far what I am hearing from Department of Tourism Secretary Ramon Jimenez, Jr,; so far he is sending the right messages to ignite our tourism industry to a new level.
Recently, he said that “Tourism as a business needs momentum and that to make it successful we need to create a momentum”.
Well said and I am hoping that the soundness of the theory can be translated to actions and implementations.
For the beauty of theories and ideas have no value at all if we cannot see the concrete actualizations of such lofty ideas.
On the other hand, in as much as the idea presented about momentum is beautiful my only reservation about it is that it places the ball on the court of the private companies to build momentum alone and forget about the important role the government must play in stimulating our tourism industry.
Again, it remains to be seen. I agree about the momentum thing and that the momentum should be created by the government and the private sector.

Staying physically active is the single most important action we can do to stay fit and independent as we get older. Physical activities are good for our bodies and minds. Also, it help us remain independent and to get the most out of life.
Fall is “unintentionally coming to the ground or some lower level and other than as a consequence of sustaining a violet blow, loss of consciousness, sudden onset of paralysis as in stroke or an epileptic seizure”.
Falls in older people are an increasingly important public health problem. Fortunately there is now evidence to guide fall prevention practice. This will be valuable to medical practitioners, Physiotherapist, occupational therapists, nurses, researchers and all those working in community, hospital and residential aged care settings. This will cover epidemiology, critical appraisal of the roles of exercise, environment, footwear, and medication, evidence-based risk assessment, and targeted and individually tailored falls-prevention strategies.
Falls in older people: risk factors and strategies for prevention is a book that Prof. Catherine Sherrington and her colleagues work out. This book is a guide through the maze of falls management. This bridges the gap between highly specialised journal articles and highly recommended to students and medical practitioner.
Prof. Catherine Sherrington led the development of novel functionally-relevant exercise protocols for older people which have been demonstrated in 5 clinical trials to have greater benefits on balance and functional ability than traditional programs. Her 1997 clinical trial which was the first to show benefits of a home exercise program after hip fracture has been cited 75 times.
To know more about this amazing findings, Professor Sherrington will be at the First Filipino Therapists Conference and Expo, September 24-25, Crowne Plaza, Ortigas Center, Quezon City.

Laughter Yoga will be discussed in the upcoming First
Filipino Therapists Conference and Expo on Sept. 24 to 25 at the Crown Plaza,
Ortigas Center.
Life is too important to be taken
seriously, says Oscar Wilde. We are serious nation with serious people who have
serious health problems, many of which are related to stress. Laughter relieves
stress. Through laughter, we cope with fear and anger-the two emotions that
results in stress.
With this, Laughter Yoga, an
exercise routine, is sweeping the world and is complete well-being workout. It
was brought to the Philippines by ElvieEstavillo in 2000. Since then, the
unique and unconventionally yoga has spread nationwide. Laughter Yoga is
founded in Mumbai, India in 1995 by a physician named Dr.MadanKataria. The
primary reason Dr.Kataria named the technique Laughter Yoga was because he
incorporated Pranayama, the ancient science of yogic breathing, into laughter
exercises. This has a powerful and immediate effect on our physiology and has
been used for more than 4,000 years to influence the body, mind and emotions.
According to yogic philosophy, we are alive because the cosmic energy from the
universe flows into our body through our breath that is the life energy force
or Prana. The essence of life is breathing. Due to stress and negative
emotions, breathing becomes irregular and shallow, thus affecting the flow of
Prana through the body.
In the Philippines, Paolo Trinidad
has founded Laughter Yoga Club Philippines (LYCP) and is a Laughter Yoga
professor.
Laughter Yoga combines unconditional
laughter yogic breathing (Pranayama). Laughter is stimulated as a body exercise
in a group, eye contact and childlike playfulness. It soon turns into a real,
contagious laughter. The concept of laughter yoga is based on the idea that the
body cannot differentiate between fake and real laughter.

| Yoga as a Medical Rehabilitation Technique may give patient healing process faster |
Yoga as a form of medical rehabilitation will be discussed in the upcoming Filipino Therapists Conference and Expo, September 24-25,2011 at Crown Plaza, Ortigas Center, Quezon City.
Mario Antonio V. M Reyes, expert in Yoga as a form of medical rehabilitation, will discuss and share his knowledge on this interesting topic. He is a practitioner of this science for 23 years and expected to contribute to the growing knowledge and science of rehabilitation medicine.
Yoga is an ancient Indian Science and way of life. The practice of Yoga can also play a role in rehabilitation of physically and mentally handicapped persons, as well as those are socially disadvantaged.
Yoga and meditation focus on removing stressful and distracting thoughts from a person’s mind and help them regain their composure and focus so that they can successfully continue with their recovery.
Yoga is fundamentally different from conventional medicine in its approach to injury. Rather than attempting to isolate the cause of an injury to a single factor and to correct it using a specific cure, yoga aims to treat injury by working with the body’s natural healing systems and improving health on all levels.
Asanas, or yoga movements, relax and strengthen muscles and massage internal organs; pranayama, or focused breathing, delivers oxygenated blood to injured areas; and relaxation and meditation calm the mind and reduce pain in the form of tension.

There is good news to look forward to in our tourism landscape. The first one is the application of United Air Lines, a US based company; and Jet Airways, an India based company to have flights in our country.
This positive action happens despite complaints against our country for charging discriminatory tax policy favoring our local airlines. I only imagine how many airlines will seek application to have flights in our country if this tax is removed. Now that is an open skies policy that will push us at the center of tourism and no more the best kept secret of Asia.
Another is the planned casino and shopping mall to be opened this 2012 at the Subic Bay Freeport. This will boost the tourism that is already stronger at Subic.
Last but not the least, is the appointment of Secretary Ramon Jimenez, I think his character gels well with the needs of the industry. He is an advertising and marketing guy that is so capable of marketing the Philippines to the world.
So it seems things are looking-up to our tourism industry and if the tourism congress that is upcoming this September creates a united front then there is no doubt that we will again be on our way to claiming our lost glory in Asia.

The event is very timely as the Department
of Labour of United States projects a 30% increase of demand from 2008 to 2018
to this industry in their country.
“We
created the event in order to contribute to a better appreciation of the
therapists and rehabilitation professionals in our country. We also believe
that the more events like this will generate more knowledgeable and skilled
therapists and rehabilitation professionals”, said
Mitch Ballesteros, EXLINK CEO.
The event is supported by Tender Touch
Rehab Services, Jeepnee, AngTherapist.Com, UNTV, 88DB.Com, and Asenso Pinoy.

There is a celebration going-on in Linked-in that may not
have been felt in our country but in the online world sparks are flying.
I am talking about the group Event Planning and Event Management Group started by Julius Solaris
of Event Managers Blog.
It is a celebration in the event planning and management
industry because it shows that it is an industry very much in demand in today’s
marketing world.
It also shows that despite the increasing usage of online
face-to-face meetings and celebrations are here to stay and, as it turns out,
vibrant as ever.
If you are passionate to know more about the problems and
solutions that goes around event planning and event management you can be part
of this site.
Cheers to the group and may our tribe increase, most
particularly, in the Philippines.
