Mad rush for tourism freebies looms at International Travel Festival 2013

A “mad scramble” for tourism freebies and discounts looms at the forthcoming International Travel Festival (ITF) 2013 as airline tickets to famous foreign tourism destinations and free hotel accommodations will be given away to many lucky visitors.

The raffle prizes at the ITF include 10 gift certificates for overnight stay in choice Philippine hotels for two, 10 international flight seats, and free trips for two to Thailand, Malaysia and Bali, Indonesia, all with hotel accommodations for three days, two nights.

Big discounts will also be available at the ITF’s component events such the Travel Philippines Show, Teambuilding Destinations Sale, Extreme Adventures Sale, Travel and Tours Christmas Sale, Hotels & Resorts Asia Christmas Sale, and Airline Tickets Sale for Asia, Europe and USA.

For local tours, free online travel reference services will be offered by Choose Philippines of ABS-CBN TV network in its exhibit booth.

The freebies and discounts are expected to bring in thousands of local and foreign visitors to the ITF, which will be held at the Mall of Asia’s SMX Convention Center Metro Manila on December 10 and 11, right at the peak of the travel season when tourists pour in droves to experience the country’s unique Christmas celebration.

The sale, involving also the destinations for teambuilding and extreme adventures, is seen to similarly attract hordes of corporate clients for their human resource development requirements and market engagement activities.

“Shoppers are likewise expected to join the massive influx of visitors looking for unique Christmas gifts that come in the form of packaged tours and travel souvenirs, thus turning the entire ITF into a fun-filled yuletide festivity for families and friends,” said chief executive officer Mitch Ballesteros of festival organizer Exlink Events.

“With our family activities and raffle draws spicing up the festival, our guests will have two full days of fun and amazing travel deals,” Ballesteros added.

Leading the global exhibitors in the ITF are executives of worldwide service provider Amadeus and members of the British, Turkish and European chambers of commerce and other Manila and foreign-based organizations.

Their big number will be matched by the local industry players and government travel marketers from the various regional offices of the Department of Tourism nationwide and its attached agency Tourism Infrastructure Enterprise Zone Authority.

Among the hundreds of local exhibitors are tourism destinations in Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao – from as far north as the Cagayan Valley to as far south as General Santos City and as far west as the island province of Palawan.

“It will be a complete two-way tourism traffic, with both inbound and outbound tourism players doing brisk business from both ends of the supply chain and all the segments in between,” Ballesteros pointed out.

“They (exhibitors) include airlines, international hotel and resort chains, travel agencies, tour operators, MICE (meetings, incentive travel, conventions and events) organizers, shopping malls and global retail brands,” Ballesteros said.

Also expected to participate in the ITF are transfers and transport firms, cruise ships and domestic passenger vessels, telecommunication companies, destination owners and managers, banks and financial institutions, and the academe and various service providers, among many others.

Being blessed with the country’s longest yuletide season or the fun in the Philippines gaining global recognition, but all roads at this early seem to lead to the SMX Convention Center Manila for an International Travel Festival come December 10-11.

And International Travel Festival is certain to emerge, with worldwide service provider Amadeus and the British, Turkish and European chambers of commerce setting the pace for the influx of other Manila and foreign-based global exhibitors in the event.

This Christmas gathering of global tourism players is matched only by the convergence of their similarly increasing number of local counterparts at the festival led by the various regional offices of the Department of Tourism nationwide and its attached agency Tourism Infrastructure Enterprise Zone Authority.

The local exhibitors include tourism destinations in Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao – from Cagayan Valley in the North to Palawan in the West, all the way to South Cotabato, Cotabato City, Sultan Kudarat, Sarangani and General Santos City in Region 12.

Thus, the nation is bound to see a vast cosmopolitan crowd whirling around the scene of the International Travel Festival (ITF) 2013, now covering, not only what used to be a solely inbound promotional event dubbed “Travel Philippines Show”, but also outbound travel named “Euro-AmeriAsian Travel, Trade & Cultural Expo.”

“ So expect both inbound and outbound tourism destinations featured in the ITF,” said chief executive officer Mitch Ballesteros of expo organizer Exlink Events.

“The fast growing registration of participants in the festival affirms the global tourism industry’s increasing momentum for sustained growth, with vacationing OFWs (overseas Filipinos worldwide) adding impetus to the phenomenon,” Ballesteros said.

Practically promoting a genuine two-way tourism traffic, the ITF is seen to contribute substantially to the continued rise in global tourism, now reportedly worth an estimated $1.15 trillion from a yearly revenue hike of 1.5 percent over the past five years.

Ballesteros said the outbound trips of foreign-based international airlines flying Filipinos to overseas destinations would also have a beneficial impact on inbound travel since they would have to promote the Philippines in their home countries to be able fill up airline seats on their return flights.

“Thus, the net effect of brisk inbound and outbound travel is a thriving tourism industry that gets a boost from both ends,” Ballesteros earlier explained, citing tourism’s total contribution of $6.3 trillion and 255 million jobs to the global economy in 2011 alone.”

To participate mostly in the ITF, therefore, are numerous exhibitors involved in both inbound and outbound businesses such as airlines, international hotel and resort chains, travel agencies, tour operators, MICE (meetings, incentive travel, conventions and events) organizers, shopping malls and global retail brands.

OFWs, kin seen to swarm expo for biz opportunities

A huge chunk of the country’s 12 million overseas Filipinos worldwide (OFWs) and their relatives are seen to swarm the grandest business and Christmas expo designed specifically for their entrepreneurial and investment needs.

Various organizations of OFWs and their relatives are even participating in the preparations for the expo by calling on their members to join the growing number of aspiring and successful entrepreneurs in their ranks.

They are led by the Global OFW Organization, Kabalikat OFWs Association, and the Ka Entrep Movement, with the OFW families groups in Pasig, Caloocan , Paranaque ,Rizal and Navotas, among many others, confirming their participation in this event .

“ They (OFWs and their relatives) are practically mobilizing their individual and collective resources for investment in the various business opportunities that will be showcased in the Mega Balikbayan/OFW Expo 2013 slated at the SMX Convention Center, Mall of Asia Complex, Pasay City on December 10 to 11, in time for the influx of migrant Filipinos for their yearly Christmas vacation and homecoming,” said chief executive officer Mitch Ballesteros of expo organizer Exlink Events.

“They are expected to troop to the expo in droves that can turn the event into a business and Family Christmas gathering of mega-scale,” Ballesteros said.

The remittances from those OFWs and migrant Filipinos have soared to over $21 billion with the continued rise in their number and deployment all over the world.

The OFWs alone, excluding their families, number to roughly 9.5 million to 12.5 million, or around 10 to 11 percent of the country’s total population, according to POEA data.

Moreover, another 1.7 million OFWs were reportedly awaiting deployment for the first 10 months of last year, which the POEA said would reflect an 8.6-percent growth year on year.

Such figures make the OFWs and their families a powerful economic bloc, whose resources can be mobilized for investments in the various industry sectors to widen the domestic capital base and strengthen the country’s resistance against external financial shocks.

“They (OFWs) can become exporters and their families export producers, thus keeping their roles as one of the country’s major dollar earners but, this time, also as job generators instead of job hunters,” Ballesteros pointed out as an example.

“The expo will have almost 200 exhibitors collectively offering a complete menu of businesses and investment opportunities, training and knowledge sources, and support services, including property firms for their housing needs and retail shops for their Christmas requirements,” Ballesteros said.

“Thus, it will be a festival that celebrates the heroism of our OFWs, or a huge gathering of Filipinos from all over the world who now have an expo they can call their own,” Ballesteros stressed.

Now on its 10^th year, the expo includes the OFW Business Summit with seminars on how to do business in the Philippines and investment literacy for OFW’s and Families and the Outstanding Balikbayan Reputation Awards (OBRA).

Primarily constituting the expo are the 1) MEGA INVEST presenting investment opportunities in various fields such as cars and automobile , real estate and property, manufacturing, franchising , support technologies, agri-aqua business, retail and wholesale , distributorships, service outlets, and many others; 2) MEGA EXPERIENCE offering various travels and tours packages , holiday destinations, health and wellness products and services, food and beverages, and hobbies’ businesses ; and 3) MEGA SHOP for discounted items, Christmas gifts , souvenir items and regional products.
